The Praise to Prince Lazar was created as a cover for the relics, specifically for the severed head of Prince Lazar. It is embroidered with gold and silver threads on red satin silk and represents one of the most significant literary works of medieval Serbian literature.
The occasion for writing and creating the Praise was the Battle of Angora in 1402. Motivated by love for her people, for Prince Lazar, and especially for his sons Stefan and Vuk, the Jefimija composed a laudatory address to Prince Lazar, glorifying him and comparing him to the greatest Christian warriors. She asks Lazar to help the Serbian army with his prayers in this difficult historical moment. The only decoration of the Praise is a flowering vine embroidered as a frame around the text, whose letters also serve as ornaments, thanks to the skillful hands of the embroiderer and poet Jefimija. The Praise accompanied Lazar’s relics during the Great Migration, remaining with them for centuries in the Vrdnik Monastery, up until the Second World War.
